NizPro Eco Tune on a Yamaha F300: ~10% Better Fuel Economy on Our Ranger Tug R27

We had the NizPro Eco Tune flashed onto our Yamaha F300 in September 2025. Since then, on the same prop, same boat, same waters, we've measured roughly 10% better real-world fuel economy. Here's what the tune actually does, what it cost, and how we're evaluating it across a full season of cruising.

Disclosure: Rogue Custom Marine flashed our Yamaha F300 ECU with the NizPro Eco Tune at no charge to us, a $874 service. We received no other compensation. Rogue Custom Marine and NizPro are not paid sponsors and there is no ongoing financial relationship. We only write about gear we actually run on our own boat, and the assessment here is our own.

In the Pacific Northwest, the fuel docks only carry 87 octane fuel. As a result, I went with the Nizpro Eco tune which works great on 87 octane. Install is easy. Turn off the engine and house DC switch. Leave them off for a week. Remove the ECU from the F300. This requires (4) 10mm bolts to be removed, and 3 quick disconnect electrical connections. Takes about 5 minutes. Put the ECU in a box and ship it 2 day air to Sean. He flashes and ships back 2 day air. Mail it on Monday, get it back Friday.

I've hit 2.1 mpg in my boat in near perfect conditions. Dock to dock, with wind, weather, and tides, I'm seeing an average that's better than 1.9mpg. Testing is still in progress as I run more gas through the engine. More details to follow as I put on more engine hours.
