House Battery-Monitor

Would you drive a boat without a fuel gauge? Add a gauge for your house battery bank and have your batteries last longer.

A battery monitor should have been the first upgrade I did, lessons learned.

I purchased a Victron BMV-712 with temperature sensor.  They cost about $240 and take about 4 hours to install.

The battery monitor lets me know the status of our house battery bank. It also is able to predict, based on current electrical loads, how long I have until they are depleted.  It's like a fuel guage but for your house battery bank.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Wondering how much power your boat actually uses — or whether you need more solar or a bigger battery bank? We built a Power Management Calculator from 6 years of real ownership data — covers the Ranger Tug R27, R29, and R31 with real Pacific Northwest solar production numbers. Enter your daily usage and it tells you exactly where your battery bank will be at the end of the day.  csurf.co/power

I don't recommend battery monitors for the engine battery or thruster banks. Instead, go with a simple Victron Battery Sense for them. (Also on the upgrades page).
